Art Club Workshop Today: Chihuly Chandelier

Art Club will meet today in room G5 after school from 3-4pm. Our project this month will be a Chihuly chandelier made of plastic bottles and tissue paper. This will be on display for our "Night of Art and Dr. Seuss" Show on May 24th.

This lesson came from the great Mr. E at Tulip Grove Elementary. We will try to make you proud Mr. E!

Op Art Cube Display

I decided to brave it and hang these up just outside the cafeteria. I already had to scold three 8th graders because they started to touch them. I hope they will survive long enough! I still have several more to put up and it will all be complete. But here is just one section of them.

**I should note that I have had SO many compliments on these from all the other teachers. The kids love them too!

 

Future projects for the semester...

I feel like I am in a creative rut. And it ALWAYS seems to happen during the spring semester. Anytime this occurs I try to indulge myself in research with different art ed blogs, websites, books, Pinterest, whatever I can find that I really like. I hate this sometimes because I don't want to ever get to where I just can not come up with my own ideas and projects for my kids. I know that teachers shouldn't feel bad taking stuff that others have done. That is kind of the beauty of our jobs, our success is meant to be shared but as someone who strives to be original, these ruts are hard....

NEVERTHELESS...

I have been finding some wonderful project ideas to do for this semester. So just in case you are curious as to what will be coming up in art class----

"Sweet Still Lives" Pop Art inspired paintings.... I am so pumped for this one!

Op Art Cubes

This week 7th Grade will be studying the art style of Op Art and their next project will be Op Art cubes. I found this on the ever-so-awesome Pinterest. I was so thrilled when I introduced this project they acted SO excited about it. We had to spend a day practicing drawing different designs on paper first since I am so limited on project paper. Oh my lanta they were upset. "WHAAAAT? We can't start on them NOW? :(((( " It's so nice seeing them get so excited about their projects! I'm currently working on creating templates for them to trace for the outline of their cube. We will draw on our templates, cut them out and assemble them last. I am a little nervous about the assembling part because it mostly reminds me of teaching origami and how CHAOTIC that experience has been in my life. They seem smart though. Hopefully they will get it without all the sweat and tears.

8th Grade Monster Update

So we are FINALLY starting to come to an end with this paper mache monster project. I have come to terms realizing that this *might* not have been a great project to do with classes that are on an A/B Day schedule. This project which usually takes 3 weeks has taken this class up to a month and a half to finish. And as for this 9 weeks, this is the only grade they have!!! And we only have 3 more weeks left till Christmas break! EEK!

So here are a few of the final products. Will be posting more when they are all finally complete. I can not get over how awesome some of them look.

8th Grade Paper Mache Monsters: The Beginning

Fall is my favorite season for several reasons, a huge one being HALLOWEEN!! My favorite holiday! :) The past 2 years I have done a paper mache monster project around Halloween with my older kids. This is by far my most favorite project I have ever done with a class. Our 8th Grade A class just began their project today and I can not wait to post more pictures of them on here!

Before I take any pictures, I wanted to share the artist who began my inspiration for this. His name is Dan and he is a wonderful sculpture artist who has bombarded YouTube with so many cool videos of his work. My class loves him!
