About Me

My name is Mallorey Garrett (formerly known as Mallorey Rogers) and I grew up in the small town of Lynchburg, TN. Yes, yes, home of the Jack Daniels Distillery! My mom and stepdad both worked in sales while I was growing up and learned at an early age the value of work ethic and being enthusiastic about your job.

My first year of kindergarten was a struggle for me. When I was 5 I developed a speech impediment of severe stuttering. Even though I really enjoyed school, it was incredibly hard for me to communicate with my teachers and classmates. Because of this, I had quite a hard time developing good social skills and making friends. When I was in first grade, I was put in speech classes at school to help me with this disability. I remember my speech teacher bringing in art supplies one day and doing art therapy with me. She taught me that art and creativity was a way I could express myself without verbal words. I started to draw and paint and she was blown away by how good I was. That was my first experience with art int he classroom and I have been doing it non-stop ever since! Art was something that I was good at and something that would separate me apart from all other kids who had a talent in something. My speech impediment eventually faded away and now I have no speech problems!

In 2005, I graduated from Moore County High School in Lynchburg, TN and continued my education at the University of Tennessee at Martin. I juggled and juggled over what to get my degree in, however, I KNEW it would need to be in art somehow. Because of my experience with art in the classroom, I wanted to share that with other students so I went on to get my degree in art education. College was by far the best four years of my life. In the summer of 2009 I got my first teaching job as the art teacher at Perry County High School in Linden, TN. I moved to Perry Co by myself to begin this experience and it was wonderful. I discovered that this really is what I was destined to do. I learned the importance of not just teaching them about art and the importance of creativity but the relationships I build with each of those students. To this day, I still keep in touch with my seniors that have graduated and have gone off to college. In the summer of 2012, I was offered a job teaching art at Mount Juliet Middle School here in Mt. Juliet, TN! I was thrilled to teach a different grade level!

On October 4, 2012 I married the guy of my dreams Matt Garrett on a private beach in Honolulu, Hawaii, just the two of us there. It was the happiest day of my life and I am so thankful God gave me someone as awesome as he is.

All in all, I am so thankful to be here and feel overly blessed with my job and life here!
